Coffee mugs, donuts, and everything in between
In this particular tour, you will meet mathematician Nicolò Zava. Nicolò's field of interest is topology, which means he is studying properties of geometric forms and spaces. How do these forms behave when we are allowed to stretch, bend, or twist them without limit? And how do these seemingly chaotic conditions allow us to understand features that might otherwise remain hidden?
In this tour, Nicolò will give you a sneak peek into his research and the world of topology, and how it can help us make sense of complex data arising from science and technology. After leading you through our exhibition “Science in the Making”, he will also show you some places on campus that have a special meaning for him and the institute's maths community.
Join us, and find out how a coffee mug can turn into a donut!
The tour with Nicolò Zava will be held in English.
