Are there other worlds in the Universe like our Earth? And how do scientists discover planets that are trillions of kilometers away? In this workshop, you will become astronomers yourselves. First, we will journey through our Galaxy in the VISTA Auditorium with the film “Encounters in the Milky Way” and experience the encounters within our cosmic neighborhood. Afterwards, you will take on the role of the researchers: working in teams, you will experiment with the so-called transit method. You will learn how astronomers measure the light of distant stars and how tiny changes in their brightness can reveal the secrets of hidden exoplanets.
