Discover science. Experience cutting-edge research. Stay curious. Explore new ideas.
With the Vifzack Academy, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education and the VISTA Science Experience Center at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) bring together young STEM talents from across Austria. There, you can gain hands-on research experience, meet leading scientists and spend an entire week at the ISTA campus, together with other science-minded teens.

Even after this week, we want to offer long-term opportunities to nurture your enthusiasm for cutting-edge research, strengthen social connections, and provide even deeper insights into ISTA’s labs and careers. This is why the Young Talents Club was created: a year-round online program combining digital activities, at-home experiments, and additional on-site events at the ISTA campus. The program is free and open to science-enthusiastic students in grades 6–9 from all across Austria. Graduates of the Vifzack Academy are warmly invited to participate, as are all other highly motivated young people with a passion for science. The focus is on shared experiences, exciting encounters with researchers, and the opportunity to explore, tinker, and discuss with like-minded peers - both at the ISTA campus and at home.
What can you expect at the Young Talents Club?
Experiments to try at home
Several times a year, you can discover new experiments online, developed for you by top scientists at ISTA. In collaboration with researchers from various fields in the natural sciences and technologies - from cloud and climate research to astrophysics and cell biology - we offer a variety of experiments and give you the opportunity to ask questions. You can find all instructions, photos, and videos for the experiments here - and the collection keeps growing. Try them out, ask questions, make discoveries, and explore something new!
What does a scientist actually do?
During school holidays or in the late afternoons after school, we invite anyone who has the time and opportunity to visit the ISTA Campus. We offer you the chance to talk directly with ISTA scientists, learn about their daily research routines, conduct experiments together, and discover something new in hands-on workshops. You can also explore the exhibition of the VISTA Science Experience Center and enjoy a snack or lunch together on campus.
Online Socials
Science brings people together - but so do games, puzzles, and laughter. At playful online meetups, you will get to know your peers in the Young Talents Club better, reconnect with familiar faces from the Vifzack Academy Week or past Young Talents Club events, and make new connections. Pub quizzes, creative team challenges, or improv games create a relaxed atmosphere and strengthen the Young Talents Club community.
The goals of the Young Talents Club
The Young Talents Club creates a space for young people who love science and want to explore more. It encourages:
scientific curiosity
long-term development of interests
exchange with researchers
social connections between like-minded students
independent thinking and scientific exploration
Step by step, we aim to build a nationwide community of young STEM talents enthusiastic about science and research.
