Current research meets education!

Secure a spot in our professional development program at the ISTA research campus in Klosterneuburg.

Content of the training:

Careers in science and technology are still not considered attractive options by many girls. There is a lack of role models and understanding of what people in STEM (also known as MINT in German) actually do and what they look like. The aim of this course is to question prevailing stereotypes and enable a playful, aesthetic approach to careers in and around science.

Two interactive exercises - each suitable for one class period with students from grade 9 onwards - work with photos of inspiring individuals from various STEM fields and invite identification with new role models. The free materials in German are available either as a physical box to take away or as a download from the VISTA website.

Participation in the training includes a tour of the exhibition “Science in the Making,” which highlights the contributions of underrepresented groups in research. This event can be credited as a teacher training course (PH). You choose one of the available dates and spend three hours on campus. Catering and coffee are provided.

Goals of this training:

  • Spark interest in science and technology among young people—especially girls: Discover playful ways to question stereotypical role models and foster the STEM potential of all students.

  • Find alternatives to traditional career guidance: Learn about innovative ideas for exploring the diversity of careers in and around science with school classes.

  • Work with adaptable teaching materials: Take the opportunity to test prepared teaching resources and optimize them for use in your own classroom.

  • Gain direct insight into the work of VISTA: Learn more about the project and the didactic considerations behind the teaching materials.

  • Networking and exchange: Connect with other teachers and science communicators to share forward-looking ideas and learn from one another.
